Raymond Milton Veasey, 82, of the Birmingham, Alabama area, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020. He was born in Leeds, Alabama, and was a graduate of Leeds High School. He was also a former member of the Leeds City Council.
"Ray" was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He was privileged to serve on the crew that constructed the Alaskan Pipeline, and later he began his long, professional career as an engineer and surveyor at the Weygand Corporation. At one point, he wrote a fishing column for The Birmingham News newspaper.
Ray was predeceased by his wife, Martha "Marti" Sykes Veasey, and his brother, Joe Veasey. Remaining family includes Ray's daughter and son-in-law, Christi-Ann and Carl Mathew Bono of Sterrett, Alabama; and grandchildren, Brock Christian Bono, Tal Matthew Ray Bono, and Noah Barker Bono.
The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by the graveside service at 1 p.m. at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
