

Richard Lee "Rick" (Baldy) Baldwin, 61, of Alabaster, Alabama passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011. His engineering career started in 1976 with U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Six years later, he moved to Birmingham, Alabama to become one of the chief engineers on the Fairfield Works Pipe Mill. In 1985, he helped start the Promac engineering firm in Riverchase, Alabama and later went into business on his own to start Project Systems Inc. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and past member of Ducks Unlimited, Atlanta Braves baseball fan, and Auburn football fan. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Baldwin. Survivors include Rick's wife, Mary Jo Baldwin; his mother, Wanda Baldwin; one son, Lynn Baldwin; one daughter, Cassie Baldwin; three brothers, Alen Baldwin (Kathy), Tim Baldwin (Karen), and Jeff Baldwin (Debbie); numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews; and beloved pals, Maggie, Sophee, Toby, Hattie, and Charlie. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2011 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, immediately followed by 7 p.m. memorial celebration in Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to American Cancer Society or Shelby County Humane Society.
