
Richard Ennis Middleton, age 81, of Vestavia Hills, AL, passed away Wednesday morning, December 9, 2015. The Fairfield, AL native retired after 30 years as a police officer with the City of Birmingham. Most of those 30 years were served on the Police Tactical Unit.
Mr. Middleton also retired from AmSouth Bank with 30 years of part-time service in Security. He later retired from Klingler's European Bakery, which he co-owned for 20 years.
Mr. Middleton was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather loved by all. He was predeceased by his parents, Thelma Crabtree Middleton and James Alton Middleton, and a brother, Jimmy Middleton.
Survivors include Mr. Middleton's loving wife of 63 years, Irmgard Klingler Middleton; three daughters, Marianne Self (Bob), Richelle Jacks (Rob), and Michelle Witherington (Eric); seven grandchildren, Kelley Whatley (Seaborn), Robyn Forrester (Justin), Tyler Richard Self (Taylor), Lacy Jacks, Cody Sellers, Chloe Sellers, and Garrett Witherington; seven great-grandchildren, Cannon Wilton, Gracie Wilton, Addison Wilton, Avery Whatley, Jones Whatley, Cade Forrester, and Tanner Forrester; one sister, Thelma Grace (Wayne); one brother, Charles Middleton; nieces; and nephews.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL, immediately followed by the 2 p.m. graveside service at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Rev. Wade Griffith will officiate.
