Jan. 22, 1944 – Aug. 7, 2014
Richard Eirl Plier, age 70 of Alabaster, AL was released from his courageous battle with bile duct cancer on Thursday, August 7, 2014. Eirl is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 48 years Roxie Woolley Plier and their sons Adam and Eric, his big brother George (Lois LaFaye) and dear sisters Lois (John) Gilmore, Dorothy Golson, Faye Griggs, Tommie Mitchell, his brother-in-law Ed Woolley and sister-in-law Sarah Nell Plier, and his 70 nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren. Eirl is predeceased by brother Durward and their parents George A. and Callie Williams Plier of Randolph, AL, his parents-in-law James Brown and Odell Mobley Woolley of Stanton, AL, and his brothers-in-law Grady Golson and Fred Griggs.
Born in Randolph, AL and a graduate of Jemison High School, Eirl was employed with Young & Vann Supply and Turner Supply companies for 40 years before starting his own industrial fabrication company, BMP Sales, which he operated successfully for 10 years before his illness began in 2013. Throughout his career Eirl always strived to be honest, fair, and to provide his customers with the best solutions for their needs, just as he also did for his family, which he loved so dearly. For these and many other reasons Eirl will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and peers.
Eirl and family would like to thank the many kind souls working in 6 North Radiology Ultrasound at UAB Hospital, his nurses Princess, Lisa, and "Pell City Flash" Katy in UAB HOSU, and hospice nurses Jackie and Barbara for their gentle, compassionate care, which provided so much comfort and relief - you treated us like family and will always be a part of ours.
Visitation and remembrance with Eirl's family and friends will be held 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. Graveside funeral services for Eirl, officiated by his nephew-in-law Rev. Kenneth Fuller, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Randolph, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (cholangiocarcinoma.org) in hope that more can be learned to treat and cure the rare cancer that cut short the life of their beloved Eirl.
