

Visitation: 9-10 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 in Hoover at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, where Bob was a charter member since 1962. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. on Friday, February 17 at the church, followed by the graveside committal service and interment at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, AL. Pastor Rev. Thomas Kelly will officiate.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, the former Martha Rowell; two sons, Greg of Hoover and David of San Francisco, CA; two granddaughters, Leslie and Jennifer of Birmingham, AL; and one great-granddaughter, Rayne Cynthia.
Bob grew up in Atlanta, GA, attended Immaculate Conception School for nine years, graduated from Tech High School, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1944. He served as a radioman aboard the USS LSMR 505 during WWII and was honorably discharged in May 1946.
Bob worked at the Veterans Administration for 10 years before going to work for IBM and moving to Birmingham in 1959. He serviced the first large IBM computer in Birmingham at U.S. Steel Corp. Later, he managed IBM service for 14 BellSouth data centers in 10 cities. After 31 years of employment with IBM, he retired in 1989.
Bob enjoyed volunteer work feeding the homeless at the downtown fire station. He also enjoyed world travel on many cruise ships, gulf fishing, and river trips in his boat with family and friends. He was a long-time member of Chace Lake Country Club, where he enjoyed many years golfing with Martha and his friends.
