Robert Forrest Smith

US Army Veteran Robert Forrest Smith, born June 12, 1951, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at Shelby Baptist Hospital. He left this world in the arms of his wife of 52 years, Sharon. After a week long fight for his life on full life support, Robert overcame all medical odds to recover just enough to coherently communicate with his family that he loved them and understood it was his time to go be with God. Upon communicating his love to his wife, son & daughter only minutes later he closed his eyes peacefully and slipped away to meet the Lord, His Angels and passed loved ones in Heaven.

Robert was a loved husband and father. He was a true provider and protector of his family. Memories and experiences with him will live on with his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren knew him as “Poppy.”

His exit comes as an unexpected and unexplainable void that only time can hope to heal.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: Sharon M. Smith (wife), Kristin Smith Martins (daughter), Robert Brandon Smith (son), Jessie Smith (daughter-in-law), & David W. Smith (brother). Grandchildren: Blakely Smith, Madison Smith, Gabriella Martins & Gabriel Martins.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 23, at Southern Heritage Cemetery, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124 at 1:00 pm.
