Ron Ramey, 65 of Vestavia, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015. Ron was a graduate from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where he majored in statistics and minored in life, friendship and football. As a member of Delta Tau Delta, he developed friendships that would span the years and pass the tests of time again and again. An avid golfer, he was always quick with a joke, a mischievous grin and an apologetic putt. Some of his greatest memories were spent out on the greens with those who knew him best. His spirit was never one to be diminished. He first battled cancer in the early eighties. With the unwavering knowledge and support of the doctors and staff at Duke University Hospital, he overcame his first battle with cancer and graced us with over thirty more years of life, love and laughter. The world was a better place with him in it and Heaven just became a lot more interesting. He will be remembered fondly and missed dearly.
Mr. Ramey is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Edward Ramey and Hersteen Crawford Ramey. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Beth Slatsky; aunts, Maxine Ramey and Sarah Mitchell; and cousins, Bruce Ramey, Sharon Ramey Barnes and Sandra Mitchell McCurdy.
The celebration of Ron’s life will be at 2pm on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, with a visitation beginning at 1pm. The burial will be at 10am Friday morning at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston.
