Ronald "Ronnie" Lee Roy, age 78, of Pelham, Alabama passed away on August 5, 2020. He was born in Bessemer, Alabama on March 24, 1942. Ronnie graduated from Bessemer High School and received an associate's degree from Jefferson State Community College. He was married to his beautiful and loving wife Rita Roy on June 24, 1979. Ronnie worked as a supervisor for Bessemer Utilities for 42 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and had a passion for animals, gardening, holidays and family. He also served in the United States Army in Germany as a military policeman.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rita Timmerman Roy; one daughter, Amanda Leigh "Lucy" Gant (Shane); one son, Ronnie "Joel" Roy (Renee); one sister, Joan Vickery (Vick); grandchildren, Cash Michael "Woogie" Gillespie, Ella Gracyn Gant, Jordan Lindsey "Jordy" Wesson, Devin Lee Roy, and Jacey Brazelton and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jones and Sarah Lee Roy; his daughter, Stefanie Renee Wesson; his sister, Brenda Frances Oglesby.
A visitation followed by a memorial service to celebrate Ronnie's life will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Oliver Hastings. He was a neighborhood friend, family and helpful caregiver to Ronald Lee Roy and also give special thanks to the Pelham fire department for all of their quick responses and all of their help.
