

Born on October 20, 1953, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Ross was the son of Oliver Edward and Betty Marion Gregson. He graduated in 1971 from Ponca City High School in Ponca City, Oklahoma. During his early years, Ross was active in the Boy Scouts of America achieving his Eagle Scout award at the age of 14. He had an early fascination with flying which culminated with him taking his first solo flight on his 16th birthday. He went on to attend Oklahoma State University (OSU), where he earned both his undergraduate degree and MBA. While at OSU, Ross was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity and was elected by his Fraternity brothers to serve in the role of President of the Fraternity. The fraternal bonds formed during those years created friendships that shaped his college years and continued throughout his life.
Ross worked for over 40 years at Conoco/Phillips 66 in several fields including: Transportation, Marketing and Aviation. Ross was known for his strong work ethic, his kindness, integrity, and honesty - qualities that left a lasting impact on colleagues, friends, and family.
On June 6, 1981, Ross married his wife, Bernie, in Houston, Texas. Over 43 years together, they built a home rooted in love, laughter, and commitment to God and to family. He was a devoted husband, father, and “G-Pa,” and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with family.
Ross loved to travel and had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing and especially fishing. He also enjoyed attending the University of Alabama and Oklahoma State Cowboy football games. He gave time to the community—serving as a youth baseball commissioner, volunteering at Oak Mountain Wildlife Center and the Oak Mountain Mission. He held leadership roles including President of both his homeowner’s association and the Foundation at Christ the King Lutheran Church. As a longtime church member, Ross also served on the church council, the finance committee and as an usher and communion assistant.
Ross is survived by his wife, Bernie Gregson; his son, Brian (Sally); his daughter, Lindsey; his granddaughter, Katie, his brother Sam Gregson (Sandy) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Edward and Betty Marion Gregson.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 30th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 611 Riverchase Pkwy W, Hoover, AL 35244. A luncheon will be served at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Christ the King Lutheran Church Foundation or to Oklahoma State University.
