

Russell graduated from Diehlstadt High School and enjoyed a long career in management with various retail companies.
He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, and his favorite leisure activities include watching baseball and Alabama Crimson Tide football.
Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joy Cranick Harper; his parents, Thurman Harper and Florence Hicks Harper; two sisters, Louise and Helen; and one brother, Claude.
Survivors include Russell's two sons, Michael D. Harper (Frances) and Stephen D. Harper (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Brian, Brandon (Leslie), Hunter (Kelsey), Hayden, Holden, Hudson, and Hope; three great-grandchildren, Molly, Anna, and Holly; and one brother, Howard Harper (Kay).
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama from 10-11 a.m., followed by A Celebration of Russell Harper's Life at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage. Burial will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
