

Sally Gardner Clements was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 14, 1937. She attended Pennsylvania State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in Education. At Penn State, she was a member of the Beta Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity. Sally then attended the University of Southern California where she earned her master's degree in Education. Sally began her career in education teaching in the Los Angeles area of California, then continuing in Independence, Missouri; Selma, Montgomery and Hoover, Alabama; and in Leawood, Kansas. Then Sally attended the University of Alabama to earn a degree in Gifted Education. At Riverchase Middle School in Shelby County, she taught GRC until retiring in 1995. Her career in education spanned 25 years. In 1993 she was named National History Day Teacher of the Year and was recognized for her accomplishments in Washington D.C. Sally was a founding member of Riverchase Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for several years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. and Catherine G. Gardner of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her husband C. Ben Clements, Jr., daughter Jennifer C. Edmonds (Wade), son C. Ben Clements III (Amy), and grandchildren Ainsley C. Edmonds, Asher W. Edmonds and Alyse M. Clements. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Atkinson of Birmingham, Michigan. Special thanks to Dr. L. Lee, Hoover Fire Station No. 3, Brenda Posey, Kellee Harris, Jossette Howard, Jean Estes, Brookwood Hospital Staff and Southern Home Hospice for their care. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, at 5:30 p.m. at Riverchase Baptist Church. Services will be Wednesday July 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Riverchase Baptist Church with internment to follow at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road in Pelham.
