Sonjia "Kathy" Harbin

Kathy was born, raised and resided in Bessemer, AL. While working at UAB she obtained her Finance degree in 1979 and went on to work for the Jefferson County Board of Education for over 20 years. Kathy was a longtime member of Westside Baptist Church which became The Baptist Church at McAdory; Kathy was a strong woman of faith who studied her Bible every morning before breakfast. She married Larry Harbin in 1999 and their favorite place to be was Orange Beach. Kathy was a beloved mother of her two children, two stepchildren and five grandchildren.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Katherine Parton. She is survived by her husband Larry, her sons Bradley and Jason (daughter- in -law Heather) Hyche, step daughters Julie Schach (Bryan) and Allison Harbin, and her grandchildren Brodie, Bryson, and Blakely Hyche, Ava Claire and Jackson Schach, Kathy’s sisters Diane Hyche (Don), Linda Shivers (Neal), cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was also a beloved member of the Cecil Nelson Family.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or the Building Fund for The Baptist Church at McAdory in memory of Sonjia Kathy Harbin.

Funeral Services will be Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11am at The Baptist Church at McAdory in McCalla, AL. Interment will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham, AL. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at The Baptist Church at McAdory in McCalla, AL.
