

Steve was survived by his wife, Cheryl Anne Holland Shader; his children, Karen, Cathleen, Stephen (Onnie), Harold (Amy), and Judy; one step-son, Stephen (Patti); grandchildren, Christopher (Nikki), Jennifer (Mark), Julie, Gregory, Katie (Allen), Harold, Warren, and Sophia; step-granddaughter, Haley; and great-grandchildren, Alexander, Lucia, Avery, and Anderson.
Steve's wife, Cheryl, passed away Monday evening, March 22, 2021.
Steve was born in Kingston, New York on November 30, 1932. He served 20 years in the U.S. Army as a pilot, retiring as Major. He founded Shader Realty, Inc. and had a passion for serving the Birmingham community.
Steve was known as a true southern gentleman with Godly values. He was a devout Catholic and dedicated his life to serving his family. He encouraged many generations to achieve their dreams no matter the sizes. He was always there for his family, no matter the situation, and would often make you feel better with a good joke. He loved fellowship with a good cigar.
While Steve’s earthly life is over, his family takes great comfort in his return to his heavenly home. His faith, integrity, honesty, generosity, and compassion will be passed down for many generations to come.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 7340 Cahaba Valley Road, Birmingham, AL 35242. Inurnment will follow immediately at Southern Heritage Cemetery, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124.
