

Setsuko “Susie” Ohba Schneider, 80, of Birmingham, Alabama, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois, and Tokyo, Japan, died peacefully in her sleep on September 6, 2014 at UAB Hospital. She was born in China, grew up in Japan, and moved to the United States in 1966. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matsukichi and Toshiko Ohba, and two grandchildren, Zachary and Evan Schneider.
Susie is survived by her husband of 48 years, Theodore William Schneider; sons, Paul (Amber) Schneider and Toby (Julie) Schneider; four grandchildren, Austin Schneider, Anya Schneider, Noah Schneider, and Emerson Schneider; and one sister living in Japan.
Susie worked for June’s Brides in Hoover, Alabama for several years as head seamstress before she and Ted bought the business in 1993 and ran it until 2010. She truly loved working with brides to be and the bridal parties to ensure their day was special! She loved movies, vacationing at the beach, and spending time with her family.
Visitation will be one hour before the 1 p.m. Celebration of Susie's Life on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The 2:45 p.m. committal service will follow at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to UAB Hospital and especially their hematology and oncology departments for their support in Susie's final days.
