Thomas Lee Gentry

Thomas Lee Gentry, age 93, of Alabaster, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 18, 2023. He was born in West Blocton, Alabama on June 12, 1930. He graduated from West Blocton High school and served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Thomas married Faye Aldridge on October 4, 1954. He worked at U.S. Steel for 31 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Alabaster where he served as Deacon, Greeter, and Usher for 51 years.

Thomas had a passion for fishing, spending time with his family, and Alabama football.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 69 years, Faye Aldridge; his daughters, Sheila Cleckler and Sharon Atkinson (Charlie); his sister, Carolyn White (Tommy); his grandchildren, Keith Culver (Lindy), Jason Parker (Lauren), and Jennifer Ponder (Tommy); his great-grandchildren, Mercy Culver Spire (Noble), Eve Culver, Hudson and Baylor Parker, and Parker Ponder; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Hobson Gentry; his mother, Clara Yeager Gentry; his brothers, Eugene Harvey Gentry and Jack Gentry; and his sister, Eva Hesser.

Thomas was a loving, caring man and touched the lives of many people. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Expect Care Hospice Group for their loving care and support. A special thank you to our three angels: Jennifer Haga, Sharon Wilbanks, and Carla Payton for being there, caring for Daddy, and showing love for the past three years. A big heartfelt thank you to the Alabaster Fire Department for coming and helping with Daddy over the last few months.

The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church Alabaster on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo at 1:15 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Wounded Warrior Projects, or the Disabled Veterans of America.
