

Verda Mae Rasco, 91, of Columbiana, AL went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2025. She was born in Cullman, AL where she graduated from West Point High School. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Birmingham where she fell in love, got married, and became a mom. She worked at Hayes Aircraft and then at U.S. Gypsum, where she retired after 37 years of service. Verda enjoyed playing softball as well as bowling. For years, she was a member of bowling teams that won city leagues and was invited to join a metro area high-scorer club. She was a dance mom and soccer mom before they were trendy. She also enjoyed traveling as well as gatherings to share meals and laughs. Her coleslaw and copper pennies dishes were big hits.
Verda loved her husband, kids, grandkids, extended family, and friends. She is preceded in death by parents James and Pauline Johns, sister Mable Hill (Earl), brother Buford Johns (Ruth), sister Opal Long (W.H.), sister Kitty Pridgen (Hugh), husband Leonard E. Rasco, and daughter Vicki Twilley (Russ). She is survived by her son Brian (Kelly), granddaughter Katherine, grandson Matthew, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A visitation for Verda will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124, followed by a celebration of life from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
