Born on December 25, 1931, in Rock Island, Tennessee, Ginnie grew up in a small rural town that fostered her curiosity and determination. Although her beginnings were humble, she lived an extraordinary life, full of adventure and devotion. It was in her hometown drugstore, while buying a new shade of lipstick, that she met the love of her life, Sam Stewart. That meeting began a beautiful journey together—one that took them across North America, Europe, the Polynesian Islands, and Hawaii.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Ginnie’s greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her children Timothy Stewart and Thomas Stewart (Karen) her grandchildren Samantha Stewart, Austin Stewart (Kristina), Allison Stewart (Abe) and Andrew Stewart (Taylor). God child Matthew Hash and nephew Derrick Hash. Her home was always filled with the laughter of her children and grandchildren, whose happiness brought her endless pride. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam Stewart; her mother, Ethel Hash; and her brother, Miller Hash.
Headstrong, determined, and a true perfectionist, Ginnie expected the best of herself and those around her. During her and Sam’s simultaneous battles with cancer, she developed a strength and compassion that later guided her volunteer work as a counselor—one of the great joys of her later years. Ginnie’s zest for life was evident in every facet—tending her lush gardens that became a Bluff Park landmark, enjoying bridge with dear friends, and participating actively in Shades Crest Baptist Church and her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed her Red Hat Society memberships and her “lunch bunch” with close friends.
A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 17th at 11:00 for close family and friends at Southern Heritage. Ginnie’s life leaves behind a legacy of resilience, elegance, and unwavering love—one that will bloom forever in the hearts she touched.
