

Wallace Barry Alvis, know as "Barry" to all friends, family and colleagues, passed away at 1:56 a.m. on June 3, 2020 at his home in Pelham, Alabama. He was loved by all who knew him and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather ("Pops").
Barry was predeceased by his parents, Robert Benton Alvis and Clara Wallace Alvis. He is survived by his wife, Judge Lara McCauley Alvis; son, Kyle Benton Alvis and wife Carrie Robinson Alvis; daughter, Ashley Alvis Lathan and husband Drew Lathan; daughter, Maggie Linn Alvis; son, Barrett Edward Alvis; two grandsons, Wallace Embry Alvis and Bentley Gray Alvis; sister, Susan Morris and husband Henry Morris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Barry lived his life defending the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights as a lawyer for over 32 years. On April 8, 2020, he was honored by the Shelby County Bar Association establishing the annual W. Barry Alvis Criminal Defense Attorney of the Year Award.
Barry was passionate about his job and helped so many to overcome addiction and steer their lives on a productive, fulfilling path. He also had a heart for representing military veterans who fought to defend the flag that he loved and respected.
Barry will be missed by so many, but will remain in our hearts as he made a difference in every life he touched.

The family will be receiving visitors to celebrate a life of service, friendship and love at the Shelby County Arts Council at 105 West College Street, Columbiana, AL 35051 from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2020.
The family will also be receiving visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124, with A Service of Remembrance for Barry immediately following at 1 p.m. at the funeral home's chapel in Pelham. The gravesite committal service will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Rev. Mark Davis will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Alvis, Dan Alexander, Dan Bethers, Larry Calhoun, Judge Daniel A. Crowson, Michael Fliegel, Jeremy Heikel, Marcus Jones, Drew Lathan, and Randall May.
