
Warren Dilburn “Dil” DeBardelaben, Jr. passed away at his home in Birmingham, Alabama on November 22, 2024. Dil was born in Anniston on October 23, 1936, the son of Warren Dilburn DeBardelaben, Sr. and Hester Bennett DeBardelaben. He attended the University of Alabama where he graduated in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He was preceded in death in 2012 by his wife of 54 years, Mae Calhoun DeBardelaben. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Joy Cabe DeBardelaben, his three children: Lisa DeBardelaben Benfield (Mike); Warren Dilburn DeBardelaben, III (Michelle); and David Bennett DeBardelaben (Melody). In addition, his five grandchildren, Tyler Benfield (Maggie), Chris Benfield, Warren “Ren” DeBardelaben IV, Ryan DeBardelaben, Lauren DeBardelaben and two great-grand children, Bodie and Charles Benfield. Dil was a licensed professional engineer and had a distinguished career in the foundry and pulp and paper industries across the state of Alabama, before retiring from Raytheon (Rust Engineering) in 1996.
He was a wonderful father who spent countless hours with his children and their friends as a parent, coach, Scoutmaster and mentor. Upon retirement, he was a fixture at events involving his grandchildren. He loved Alabama football, travelling, playing golf and spending time with family and friends at his home in Orange Beach. Dil was also a long-time member of the congregation at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Birmingham, rarely missing a service.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 13, 1:00 pm at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
