

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cynthia Braswell, children Brian Hite (Jenny), Preston Hite (Janelle), W. Charlie Braswell III (Mary Lee), Rachel Braswell, and 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife, Lutheree Braswell.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Braswell and Elizabeth Braswell, sister Mary Gill, and granddaughter Mia Hite.
Bill was voted the senior class favorite at Ensley High School, and was an All-State, All-American football player, an All-City basketball player, and a record holder in the Shot-Put.
He was awarded a four year athletic scholarship to Auburn University from 1963 thru 1967. He played for Coach Shug Jordan, lettering in football for three years, receiving All-SEC honors in 1966. He also lettered on the track team for two years. He was an academic All-American and a member of the first Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Auburn Football Lettermen’s Club. Bill received a degree in Industrial Engineering, and then was drafted by the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, but decided not to play.
In 1986, Bill graduated from the Birmingham School of Law, where he was class president. He was admitted to the Alabama State Bar Association in 1987. He was a member of the American Arbitration Association, serving on both the Labor/Employment panel and the Commercial Construction panel as a Mediator and Arbitrator.
He worked at U.S. Steel for 19 years, UAB for 10 years, and the Birmingham City Schools for 10 years.
He was a previous member of McCoy Methodist Church, where he was baptized. He was also a member of St Mark Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and was on the Youth Council for Junior and Senior High students. Later, he was a member of Shades Mountain Bible Church where he was a Deacon and taught the College and Career Sunday School Class. Finally, he was a member of Valleydale Church.
There will be a private family graveside service. A public memorial service will be held at Valleydale Church (2324 Valleydale Rd, Birmingham, AL 35244) on Sunday July 13th. Visitation will begin at 1:30 and the Memorial service will begin at 2:30.
