William C. Martin Jr.

William C. Martin, Jr., 97, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. He was born in Durant, Mississippi on June 21, 1925. William (Bill) graduated from Durant High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, he completed his education at The University of Alabama in 1953 earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. Bill enjoyed a 37 year career in Technical Engineering Sales for Alabama Power Company. He served in various capacities in several professional, civic, and religious organizations including: ASHRAE, Producers Council, Alabama Solar Energy Society, Capstone Engineering Society, Sertoma, Boy Scouts Troop 96, Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church, and the Gideons. Bill married Ruby Jean Cooper on July 24, 1947 and together they headed to Tuscaloosa. He and Ruby shared a lifelong passion for golf and University of Alabama football.

Bill is survived by his wife Ruby; sons, William Martin, III (Susan) and Jed Martin (Sally); granddaughters, Rachel Warriner (William) and Meredith Wheeler (Travis) and great granddaughter, Rosalind Martin.

Funeral Arrangements are planned for: Tuesday, February 14 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation at 1 PM followed by the service at 2 PM. Burial to follow immediately after the chapel service at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
