

Bill was a 1956 graduate of Auburn University with a degree in civil engineering and a lifelong Auburn fan. Bill entered the Air Force in 1956, served at Wright Patterson AFB, Kadena AFB, Okinawa, and Columbus AFB where he received an Air Force Commendation Medal for his service. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1959 as a Captain in the Air Force Reserve. Bill had a successful career with Vulcan Materials and retired after 31 years.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Doris Panter; parents, Homer and Edna Mae Panter; and sister, Willa Mae Panter.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Freeman Panter; son, William Barry Panter; daughter, Donna P Livesay (Ken); step sons, Guy (Angie), Barry (Katie), and Jeff (Debbie) Freeman; grandchildren and step grandchildren, Brad, Whitney, Brett, Kari, Jessica, Guy Jr., Justin F, Whitney, Blake, Dylan, Savannah, Emily, Rushton, Jarrod, Justin B.; six great grandchildren; sister, Mary Louise Chapman; and many loving nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all that knew him and will be greatly missed.
There will be a funeral service at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday November 16th at 11am with a visitation starting at 10am. Burial will follow at Elmwood cemetery.
