Born on July 2, 1931, in Atlanta, Georgia, to James Norman and Addie Lee Smith, Wilson's life was marked by unwavering dedication, love, and service.
After earning his degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Wilson embarked on a distinguished career, beginning with his honorable service in the United States Army as an officer. Following his military tenure, he joined AT&T, where he dedicated 38 years of his life, rising to the esteemed position of company treasurer. His commitment, integrity, and expertise left an indelible mark on the organization.
Beyond his professional achievements, Wilson found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. He found solace and contentment working in his yard and tinkering with a variety of projects. An avid fan of Alabama football, he cheered passionately for his beloved team, finding camaraderie and excitement in every game.
Amidst his various interests and pursuits, Wilson's greatest source of happiness was his family. He cherished his loving wife of 63 years, Rita, and took immense pride in the accomplishments of his daughters, Angela Crain, Patty McCartney (Bruce) and Sally Crumpton (Jeff). Wilson's heart overflowed with love as he watched his family grow, welcoming grandchildren Sheldon (Audra), Daniel, Bryant, Anna, Rachel, Joseph, and Aaron into his life, and later, great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Kaedyn, Lincoln, and Ansley.
Wilson is a born-again Christian, having received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the tender age of 9. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and enriching his relationships. Wilson's commitment to his faith extended to his service at Green Valley Baptist Church, where he faithfully served for years as a deacon, offering his time, gifts, resources, and unwavering support to his church community. His faithfulness and devotion touched the lives of many and left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Wilson's legacy of love, dedication, and integrity will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him. While his physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his memory will be cherished eternally. We will see you on the other side, Pops.
