

Wylene was born in Cuthbert, Georgia on September 18, 1938, the second child of James Thomas Jr. and Martha Hazel Thompson Moore. In the summer of 1959, Wylene met the love of her life, James (Jim) Robert Helton at the First Baptist Church in Atlanta. A year later, Jim and Wylene were married on June 11, 1960, the same day Jim graduated from Georgia Tech. Wylene and Jim began their married life in Atlanta, Georgia and spent most of their shared lives in Birmingham, Alabama. Wylene and Jim celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 11, 2020.
Wylene and Jim have been active members of Riverchase Baptist Church for many years and adored their church family. Wylene enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren, traveling and golf. She was a fabulous cook and loved decorating her home for family and friend celebrations.
Wylene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Helton, her father, James Thomas Moore, Jr., and her mother Martha Hazel Thompson Moore.
She leaves behind her sister, Joan Moore Henderson of Atlanta; daughter Kathy Helton Couper of Atlanta, son-in-law Glenn, grandsons Mitchell (Natasha) and Grant (Ashley), great-granddaughters Zoey and Audrey Couper; son Stanley Robert Helton of Birmingham, daughter-in-law Doran, granddaughters Carlyn Tyree (Brent) and Charlestan Wood (Matt), great-grandchildren John Thomas and Caroline Tyree, and Kenneth Wood; and son Michael Thomas Helton of Birmingham, daughter-in-law Susie, grandsons Drew and Michael.
The family will be having a private memorial service to honor their mother.
The family would like to extend its gratitude for the love, care, and support given to Wylene by the Home Instead team (Daisy Perry, Joann Polk, Lisa Smith, Linda Mitchell, among others); and the team at Aspire Physical Recovery Center at Hoover.
