Mrs. Betty Green Tinsley, 88, of Pell City, Alabama, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 23, 2025. She was born November 14, 1936 to the late Alvin Lee Green and Nancy Ray Green of Blow Gourd, Alabama.
Betty was her family’s beloved “Grandbetty” and a warm, generous, beautiful, smart, stylish and loving woman. She was the proud wife of 66 years to her cherished husband, Happy, and an incomparable mother to her two sons, Chuck and Mark. She was a dear friend and constant blessing to her two daughters-in-law, and a cherished grandmother to her four beautiful grandchildren.
Betty was an avid reader, and loved music and movies. She was always up for a discussion about books and current events. An accomplished cook and flower gardener, she crafted delicious homemade meals and sweets, and filled her home with beautiful rose and flower bouquets from her garden.
Betty was born and raised in Blow Gourd, Alabama. She was a 1954 graduate of Cleveland High School, and a 1957 graduate of Jacksonville State University. Just shy of obtaining her Master’s degree in education, Betty married Robert “Happy” Tinsley of Lafayette, Alabama in 1957. She worked as an elementary teacher at Eden Elementary for a few years prior to opening Tinsley Supply in Pell City with her husband in 1966. Betty worked at Tinsley Supply until her retirement in 2011.
Betty was active as a Jacksonville State University alumna supporting the Jax State Marching Southerners for many years. In 2024, she and her husband were honored as new members of the Lifetime Leaders Society of Jacksonville State University.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial remembrances be made to Green’s Chapel Cemetery Fund, 34712 State Highway 79, Cleveland, Alabama 35049.

Betty is preceded in death by her sister, Virginia “Geeta” Faye Green. Survivors include husband, Happy Tinsley of Pell City, AL; sons, Chuck Tinsley and wife Christina of Denver, CO, Mark Tinsley and wife Lynn of Douglasville, GA; grandchildren, Cal Tinsley of Atlanta, GA, Anna Lane Conner and husband Cole of Atlanta, GA, Parker Tinsley of Denver, CO, and Maria Tinsley of Denver, CO.
