Carl Gray Goodgame

Carl attended Pell City High School and ultimately graduated from The Anniston Academy in Anniston, Alabama in 1970. Carl continued his educational journey at Jacksonville State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1985, a Master of Science in Education in 1990, and an Educational Specialist degree from Auburn University in 2003.

Carl devoted his career to public education, serving as a classroom teacher, a school counselor, and a psychometrist for the Alabama State Department of Education and the Department of Youth Services. Carl also held a seat on the Pell City School Board of Education in the late 90s and early 2000s.

In 1979, Carl enlisted in the United States Navy. As Hospital Corpman Third Class, he served multiple deployments in the Indian Ocean and West Pacific Theater aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Ranger (CV-61), between 1980 and 1983. He earned multiple commendations including a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, and a Humanitarian Service Medal.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Elaine Goodgame; son, Petty Officer Third Class, United States Navy, Madison T. Landers; brother-in-law, United States Airforce Colonel, Randolph S. Reynolds III (Vonna).

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Catherine "Katy" Goodgame; daughter, Lisa Landers; brother, Dennis Goodgame (Vivian); borther-in-law, Perry H. Reynolds (Marilyn); Carl is also survived by his nephew, Brian Goodgame; niece, Jamie Goodgame; nephew Christopher Reynolds (Amber); nephew Andrew Reynolds (Jen); nephew Randolph Reynolds IV (Allison); niece Emily Stoneham (John).

A service to honor his life will be held at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City, Alabama on Friday, March 20, 2026. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am with a service to follow.
