

Harold "Smitty" E. Smithson, age 94, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Cropwell, Alabama passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022. Smitty was born January 20, 1928 in Bessemer, Alabama to Harold and Beulah Skelton Smithson.
Smitty graduated from McAdory High School and also attended the University of Alabama. He served in the U. S. Navy as a Medical Corp Pharmacist Mate and then retired from Alabama Power. After retirement Smitty: owned a surveying company; worked at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City, Alabama; worked at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, Georgia; and volunteered at Union General Hospital.
Smitty was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Pell City until moving to Georgia. There he became a member and was an ordained deacon of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.
Smitty is survived by his sisters: Vaudine Smithson Gilmore and Shirley Smithson Langston; nieces: Cindy Cowley (Jerome) and Beth Harris (Tre'); nephews: Terry Harbarger (Jeannie) and Randy Langston (Jeni); great nieces: Andrea Galvin (Dan), Courtney Patterson, Kathryn Baughman (Nick) and Caroline Harris; great nephews: Joey Harbarger (Monica), Seth Langston, Jacob Langston and Jonathon Langston; great great nieces: Sarah Harbarger, Sophie Galvin and Isabella Galvin; great great nephews: Andrew Baughman, Luke Baughman, Harrison Harbarger, Hunter Patterson and Drew Patterson; special friends: Darlene Herr; Tom, Coleen and Tommy Orchanian; and Vivian Kelinz.
Smitty was preceded in death by his wife: Elma Alexander Smithson; daughter: Dee Anne Smithson Dill; and parents: Harold and Beulah Skelton Smithson.
A graveside service for Smitty will be Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at Valley Hill Cemetery in Cropwell, Alabama at 11:00 am.
