

Doug was born in Oxford, AL on September 4, 1946. He was a 1964 graduate of Munford High School. Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Air Force and served 32 years. He moved to Moody around 1970. He was an avid blood donor starting in his teens, then later he started donating platelets. During his service time, he traveled to many places over the world. Doug liked to hunt and fish from childhood to his entire life. He loved to garden and grow roses in remembrance of his mother.
Doug loved being a parent, grandpa and a great grandpa. He loved the following survivors more than life itself but more importantly he loved his Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Doug is survived by his daughters, Lisa Michelle Newton and Carla Renee' Ash; grandchildren, Justin Michael Katsarakis, Jordan Matthew Katsarakis, Nikki Watts and Kelsey Ash Lowery; great-grandchildren, Olivia Grace Katsarakis, Emmett Monroe Lowery, Emerson James Lowery and Derek Elliott Watts.
Doug is also survived by his brothers, Cecil Freeman and Donald Freeman; sister, Joan Howell.
He was Uncle Doug to several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
A visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 8:30am - 9:30am at Kilgroe Funeral Home (Pell City) with the funeral service beginning at 9:30am in the chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home. A graveside service will be 12:30pm, Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL.
