Wayne Douglas Hicks, 81, of Talladega, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on August 30, 2025.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Reverend Lillie Hicks; son, Michael Hicks; daughter in law, Teresa Hicks eight grandchildren, Stephanie Braden, Rodney Hicks (Myranda), Brianna Wade (Aaron), Stacy Hicks (Chris), Connie Harvell (Jerry Wayne), Mark Hicks (Jeanette), Charity Walters (Cam), and Crimson Hicks; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Curtis Hicks and Jerry Hicks.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ozie and Pearly Hicks; sons, Johnny Wayne Hicks and Dwayne Eddie Hicks; daughter, Tammy Lynn Hicks; grandson, Joshua Andrew Hicks; great-grandson, Rodney Hicks Jr.; and nine sisters and brothers.
Born on June 16, 1944, in Jacksonville, Wayne lived a life devoted to faith, family, and music. On September 9, 1961, at the age of 17, he married the love of his life, Lillie (Batson). Together they built a marriage rooted in love and faith that spanned nearly 65 years.
In 1972, Wayne gave his life to the Lord and for the next 40 years, Wayne faithfully led music in church, sharing his gift of song and worship with countless others. He was a dedicated member of Joyview Heights Church of God in Anniston, Alabama, where he also served as the adult Sunday School teacher for 30 years. His commitment to his church family and his Lord was evident in every part of his life.
Wayne also found great joy in the outdoors. Whether hunting, fishing, or simply appreciating God’s creation, he treasured those moments. But more than anything, Wayne loved his family. He adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Wayne will be remembered as a man of unwavering faith, gentle strength, and boundless love. His legacy lives on in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
A visitation for Wayne will be held at Joyview Heights Church of God on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 beginning at 11:00am, with funeral service to follow at 1:00pm. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Alexandria, Alabama.
