

Arthur was born in Penn Yan, NY on July 12, 1920, the son of the late, Albert and Irene (Harris) Griffiths. Arthur served in the US Marine Corp. in the South Pacific during WWII. He was employed with Retail Purchase Corp., Morton Salt, and retired from Penn Yan Express. He and his wife Sally owned and operated Griffiths Home for the Elderly for 20 years. He served as the Chairman of the Yates County Democratic Party during the 1960’s and was a member of the Penn Yan VFW and the Johnson-Costello American Legion. In addition to his parents, Art was predeceased by his wife, Sally on September 14th, 2003.
Art is survived by his children, Kelly (Tobin) Tansey, Leigh (Gordon) Lafferty, John (Dawn) Griffiths, Bridget (Kyle) Travis, Casey (Carrie) Griffiths, William (Heather) Griffiths, Joseph (Matthew McKeon) Griffiths, and Erin (John Young) Griffiths; his grandchildren, Ryan, Chelsea, Gavin, Darcie, Brinna, Megan, Nate, Matt, Rebecca, Lizzy, Jake, AlyceRose, Liam, Josh, Sally, Mary-Margaret, Riley, and Aiden; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call from 4 to 7pm on Thursday, January 3rd at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 4th at 11am at St. Michael’s Church in Penn Yan. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Penn Yan. Memorial contributions may be made in Art’s memory to St. Michael’s School, 214 Keuka St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
