

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday April 1st, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Liberty St., Penn Yan, NY with burial to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Bernie was born in Penn Yan, NY on March 7th, 1953, the son of the late E. Robert & Barbara Boyd Castner. Bernie was a graduate of Penn Yan Academy and attended SUNY Morrisville College. He worked for Penn Yan Express and PBI Radio before starting his own business, Vital Telecommunications. He was a member of St. Michael’s Church.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Julie; children, Ross (Amber Wraight) Castner of Penn Yan, NY, Abby Castner of Austin, Texas, Ryan Castner, Reid Castner, Mark Hammond all of Penn Yan, NY; sisters Linda (Stephen) Staples of Albany, NY, Sharon (Robert) Langer of Endicott, NY, Mary (Adrian) Tyndell of Brockport, NY; brother, Brian (Jane) Castner of Eldersburg, MD; step-mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Castner of Penn Yan, NY; mother-in-law, Patricia Wood of Penn Yan, NY; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful companions Bear, Butter and Peanut.
