

Brian was born in Seneca Falls, NY on March 7, 1946. He grew up and attended school in Ovid, NY. Brian enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Guadalcanal as a deck seaman from 1963-1967. He completed his service in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1967-1969. After his service he was employed at Sampson Army Base in Romulus, NY and the Willard State Hospital in Seneca County. In 1975 he moved to Penn Yan, NY. Brian worked in the car sales industry for over thirty-five years primarily in the Penn Yan area, a career that Brian thoroughly enjoyed.
Brian is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Janice R. Bastian of Penn Yan; daughter, Brianne Louise (Kyle) Johnson of Charlotte, NC; sons, Clifford Tyler Bastian of Syracuse, NY and Brian Scott Bastian of Auburn, NY; five grandchildren, Preston and Brockton Brian Johnson, Jordan, Colby and Heidi Bastian; sister Cheryl Rabbe of Caledonia, NY and brother Doug Bastian of Varick, NY. He was predeceased by his mother, Virginia Wood Bastian; brother, Clifford John Bastian; father and mother in-law, Thomas and Louise Ballard.
Brian will be remembered by his family and friends for his outgoing personality, sense of humor and his endless love.
Family and friends may call from 4 pm to 6 pm on Wednesday, January 29th at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY. A memorial service celebrating Brian’s life will follow at the funeral home at 6pm with the Rev. Lucinda O’Leary officiating. In acknowledgement of Brian’s service, Military honors will conclude the memorial service.
