
Joan was born in Lincolnshire, England on July 8th, 1924, the daughter of the late, George E. and Elizabeth (Brightman) Wass. She attended Morton Regular School and Bourne Grammar School in Lincolnshire. She was a resident of the Waterloo, NY area since 1946. Joan had worked the former Seneca Falls Hospital. She was a life member of the Memorial Post 6433 VFW Auxiliary and a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Branchport. Joan was a former member of the Solid Rock Wesleyan Church and had volunteered for Seneca County Red Cross, Seneca County Senior Citizens, and Meals On Wheels for 14 years.
Joan is survived by her son, Melvin (Nancy) Davis of Bluff Point; daughters, Bertha Twist of Seneca Falls, NY, Karen (William) Kaufman of New Cumberland, PA, Mary Switzer of Seneca Falls, Darlene (Robert) Maslyn of Geneva, and Betty Davis of Seneca Falls; Several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her first husband, Melvin A. Davis in 1986; her second husband, Harold Schoonover in 2008; three brothers and six sisters.
Friends and family may call from Noon to 1pm on Friday, September 23rd at the St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 187 West Lake Rd., Branchport, NY, where her funeral service will follow at 1pm with the Rev. Doug Carroll. Interment will be at Fox Cemetery on Black Brook Rd., in Seneca Falls, NY. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 187 West Lake Rd., Branchport, NY 14418.
