Marian Nelson Mann

Marian was born on May 27, 1930 to the late Stanley & Agnes (Nielsen) Nelson. She started working as an Account Clerk Typist in the Yates County Clerk’s Office in January of 1949, which at that time also encompassed the Jury Commissioner’s Office. Marian was appointed as Deputy County Clerk in Yates County in July of 1952, appointed Deputy Commissioner of Jurors in February of 1969, was elected as the Yate’s County Clerk and appointed as the Commissioner of Jurors in January of 1979, retiring January 1, 2008.

She was a hard worker all of her life. Marian was an active member of the Dresden United Methodist Church, overseeing many church committees. She volunteered at Keuka Comfort Care Home, Border City School, The Living Well, was Volunteer of the Year for 2013, and a member of the Council of Churches, and the Town of Benton Board of Assessment. She enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling with friends, and going to Merry-Go-Round Theater in Auburn.

Marian is survived by her children, Deborah Mann of Lansing, NY, Jeffery (Jennie) Mann of Penn Yan, NY, Tracy Mann, Penn Yan, NY; brother, Stanley (Doris) Nelson of Smethport, PA; sister, Janet Smith of Woodland, CA; brother-in-law, Jerry Nissen of Penn Yan, NY; several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Mann on March 3, 1997; sisters, Linda Nissen and Gail Nelson.
