Mary E. Sherman

Mary E. Sherman, age 77, of Keuka Park, NY passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan. Mary was born on November 11, 1940, the daughter of the late, Willard and Elizabeth (Austin) Sherman. Mary was a school teacher for over 33 years. She had taught at the Penn Yan Academy from 1962 to 1965, at the Greece Central School District from 1965 to 1966, and for the Hammondsport School District from 1966 until her retirement in 1996. Mary had also officiated for many girls’ sports over her career including State Soccer, National Basketball, and local volleyball. She volunteered for the RPO and enjoyed music, opera and reading.

Surviving Mary is her sister, Nancy L. Downing of Couer d’Alene, ID; brother-in-law, Robert Caton of Gainsville, NY; sister-in-law, Myra Sherman of Hammondsport; many nieces and nephews; and many wonderful and close friends. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brother, James Sherman and her sister, Dorothy Caton.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11am on Saturday May 19th, 2018 at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel.
