
Nan was born on November 6th, 1929 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late, George and Iva (Sproule) O’Brien. Nan was a 1949 graduate of Penn Yan Academy. During the 1940's, Nan lived in Oakridge, TN with her family, where her father had been assigned to work with the atomic bomb development. She was married to Jack Logan on July 8th, 1950.
Nan was a homemaker after they moved away from Penn Yan as Jack’s career began. She was an excellent cook, was very knowledgeable and loved shopping for and collecting antiques. Nan became an expert in quilt making and had made many quilts and quilted items for gifts and for family members. Whenever they moved over the years and were away from the Penn Yan area, she always found a new group of friends through quilting clubs and organizations.
Nan is survived by her loving and caring husband of 66 years, Jack R. Logan; her son, Richard W. Logan of Normal, IL; her best friend and twin sister, Nancy “Ann” Fernardez; sister-in-laws, Sandra Hoffman, Lois Van Gorder, and Dorothy O’Brien; brother-in-laws; Bob (Polly) Logan and Jim Logan; as well as many wonderful and loving nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Their family dog, Sadie. Also the wonderful caregivers she had during her illness.
In addition to her parents, Nan was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah J. O’Neil on March 11th, 2016; her son-in-law, James O’Neil; brother, Brian O’Brien; brother-in-laws, Don Fernardez, Lyle Van Gorder, Chet Hoffman, and sister-in-law, Gloria Logan.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd at 11am at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
