

She had 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Growing up in Bogalusa, she graduated High School and moved to New Orleans, La during World War II to work for Western Union as a telegraph operator. A couple years later, she moved back home and worked at the local paper mill. Here, she was set up on a blind date with the love of her life, Navy Lt Robert Ricks. They married December 15, 1951 and moved to Whiting Field, Milton Florida, as Robert was a Navy Flight Instructor. Althea loved being a Navy wife, homemaker and Mother to her three children. She was a great cook and seamstress. She did not like yard work, but eventually took up Golf and was proud of the fact that she made a Hole in One Shot, not once but twice! Later in life, she was blessed to become a devoted Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and regularly attended Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Althea was preceded in death by her husband Captain Robert Ricks, great granddaughter Josephine Powell, her parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
She is survived by her children, son, Bobby Ricks(Marilyn), daughters Sandy Norton(Chuck), Jan Tracy(Chris). Grand son Matthew McGowan, granddaughter Alexandra Norton Powell (Robert), Granddaughter Kristina Norton, Thomas Kimbral, Phillip and Julie Boutwell. Great grandchildren Luke Powell, Charlotte Powell, Vivian Powell, Emily Boutwell and Jack Bryan Boutwell. A sister Sharon Borde and a brother Louis Borde both from Bogalusa La. Many nieces and Nephews.
A memorial service will be held Monday February 24, 2025, 9:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
