Belmont Riley Garrett left this life to be with Jesus on Thursday, May 05, 2011. Belmont was born on March 13, 1923 in Chambers County, Alabama. He served in the Army during World War II, and returned home to a career as an automobile dealer service manager. After retiring, he returned with his wife to her native home, Pensacola.
Belmont was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Hattie Mae Garrett.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty Majors Garrett; daughter, Linda Merritt and husband Marion; two grandsons, Tim Merritt and wife Shirley and Mark Merritt and wife Rhonda; two great-granddaughters, Jennifer Merritt and Gillian Merritt; and one sister, Marion Goggins. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, all of whom were blessed by his presence in their lives and who will remember him always.
Belmont was a member of Calvary Way Full Gospel Church and the Calvary Way Men’s Ministry.
He was a loving and caring husband, a man of sweet spirit, gentle ways and quiet strength. He loved his family and was much loved in return.
Visitation will be held at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 08, 2011. Funeral services will be held at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 09, 2011. Entombment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. Officiating will be Carl Shiver, Senior Pastor, Jim Diamond, Associate Pastor and Pastor Mitch Turner, all of Calvary Way Full Gospel Church.
Pallbearers will be Pete Smith, Greg Longuet, Dwaine Norwood, James Hernandez, Brandon Metz and Ralph Whitmire. The men of Calvary Way Men’s Ministry will serve as honorary pallbearers.
BAYVIEW FISHER-POU CHAPEL, 3351 Scenic Highway is in charge of arrangements.
