Bobby John Bullard , “BJ”, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 26th, 2025 in Pensacola Florida. He was born in Waycross, Georgia on August 9, 1941. After graduating high school, he followed in his Father and Grandfathers’ footsteps to serve his country by joining the United States Navy, where he met his wife Kathy of 61 years. They started their family in Pensacola in 1964. BJ was “Mustang” Naval Officer, something he was very proud of. BJ started his career at NAS Pensacola as an Airman Apprentice. Then promoted to a First-Class Air Controlman. He was accepted into the ADCOP program where he received his A.S. degree at Pensacola Junior College. BJ was promoted into the Limited Duty Officer Program (LDO) and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. The Bullard family enjoyed other duty stations in San Diego, Antarctica (“The Ice”), Bermuda, Key West and returned to Pensacola where BJ and Kathy retired in 1988.
Following his retirement, he worked for the Veteran’s Administration and the Disabled American Veterans “DAV” and served as the Commander, Senior Vice Commander, and Chapter Chaplain of the Al Gray DAV Chapter 23 in Pensacola. Serving Veterans had a special place in BJ’s heart. Additionally, as a lifelong learner, he completed his B.S. degree from Troy State University in 1999.
BJ's priority was always providing for his family, financially, through hard work, and supporting them in their day-to-day lives by being a steady role model and teaching them the importance of honesty. BJ loved to fish, was an avid golfer and liked to go on long walks and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor, was a great storyteller and always made us laugh.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Lorraine Bullard and is survived by his wife Kathy, children Richard (Beau) Bullard, Shelby Bullard, Linda Cherones (Scott) and grandchildren children Jessa Holt Cherones (Bryan) and Thomas Cherones.
Final arrangements are with Oak Lawn Funeral Home, Pensacola. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church (5200 Saufley Rd), Pensacola, FL on April 24, 2025 at 11:30 AM, followed by a Military Burial at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, at 1:30 PM. Reception to follow at their home: 3200 Alicante Street.
