On October 27, 2025, Brenda Lorene Nolte Lang, 54, went home to be with the Lord after a 5-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
Birth & Early Life
Born March 30, 1971, in Porterville, California, Brenda grew up with a deep love of language and learning. She graduated from Strathmore High School in 1989 and later studied English at Fresno State University. She later earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Colorado–Colorado Springs in 2013.
Military Service
In January 1994, Brenda enlisted in the United States Army, training as a Personnel Administration Specialist. Her duty stations included Fort Polk, Louisiana; Fort Huachuca, Arizona; and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. At Fort Polk, she excelled during a Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) rotation, serving as a combat lifesaver, radio operator, and company commander’s driver—all while fulfilling her core responsibilities for personnel accountability and actions within the 142nd Corps Support Battalion. She brought the same dedication to Arizona, where she also served as the NBC (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical) NCO for the 40th Signal Battalion.
In 2000, Brenda moved to the 115th Military Intelligence Group (Schofield Barracks, Hawaii). From there, she deployed to Honduras, where she filled a critical role at Medical Element, Joint Task Force Bravo, maintaining personnel records for the entire installation. After the events of 9/11, with the well-being of her children foremost in mind, Brenda honorably left the Army as a sergeant in June 2003 so they would have a parent not in uniform during a time of expanded military commitments.
Family
Brenda married her first husband in 1994 and welcomed her first son in 1995 and her second son in 1999; she later divorced in 2000. While living in Hawaii, she met the man who would become her second husband, and they were married on March 17, 2003. She later welcomed a daughter in 2007. Motherhood was her greatest pride and joy. Brenda kept an open home where family and friends often stayed for extended periods, and she lovingly took on a mother-or-mentor role to many, including Alexandria Whitley and “TJ.”
Interests & Personality
Brenda was a lover of Shakespeare and other English poets and authors. A lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan, she was also an avid reader—especially of romance novelists such as Sherrilyn Kenyon. At home, she loved gathering the family to play Dungeons & Dragons. Country music—especially Alabama, Toby Keith, Dolly Parton, and Home Free—made her smile, and she shared that love with her second husband. She collected Tiggers—because, as she liked to say, she was “the only one.” Her faith was central; she loved traditional hymns and the music of MercyMe. Brenda gave her time to her church, volunteering at Fall Festivals and other outreach events.
Preceded & Survived
Brenda was preceded in death by Lester Nolte (Father), Billie Nolte (Sister), and Alexandria Whitley (daughter). She is survived by her mother, Lorene Nolte (née Floyd); her sister, Mattie Nolte; her husband, Brion Walter Lang; and her three children: Bryan Stuart Robins, Zachery John Nolte Robins, and Samantha Lorene Nolte Lang.
