Mrs. Johnson grew up on a farm in Indiana and then traveled with her father, who was in the Army, and mother. She was fortunate, growing up, to travel to Massachusetts, Germany, and California, where she graduated from Monterrey High School. After graduation, her family moved to Satellite Beach, FL where she started her career as a secretary and later met her Air Force husband, Donald Johnson. They spent 21 years in the Air Force, with tours of duty in the Netherlands, Spain, Colorado and several bases in Florida where her husband retired and later moved to Pensacola in 1976. She worked as a transportation secretary at West Florida Regional Planning Council until retiring in 2002. Mrs. Johnson was a resident of Pensacola for 49 years where she was a member of several organizations including Beta Sigma Phi, Panhandle Senior Travel Club, and Council on Aging volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her parents John F. Abbott of Tucson, AZ, Ina Margaret S. (Barkley) Abbott Roebuck Brenny Memory of Tampa, FL, William Roebuck of Satellite Beach, FL; husband Donald P. Johnson; grandson Aaron Michael Schmidt; Uncle/Aunt Dr. Sylvester and Ida Janice (Barkley) McGinn; cousin Sylvester McGinn, Jr.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Andrea (Montford) Johnson of Pensacola; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda (Johnson) and Kerry Schmidt of Colbert, WA; seven grandchildren, Lindsey and Katelyn Johnson, Kevin, Kalina (Bryan), Kyla, Kara and Kameron Schmidt; four great-grandchildren Lucas, Benjamin and Korbin Bryan, Savannah Hancock; half-sister Cheryl Abbott; cousins Dr. Roger and Mary Margaret (McGinn) McCarthy; brother-in-law Jeffrey Johnson; sister-in-law Barbara Johnson.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation at 11:00 a.m. and a Memorial service at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway 90e, Pensacola, FL 32503. Interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
