

Charles Edward White, “Charley”, went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2015. He was born December 14, 1947, as the fourth son of Roy and Ruby White of Pensacola. After graduating from Pensacola High School, Charley was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1966-1969. He was in the 26th Infantry, The Big Red 1, in Vietnam, where he was wounded twice on November 07, 1967, in a hard-fought battle. He was one of only three men in his squad who survived that day. The severity of his wounds required a lengthy recuperation. For is bravery he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Following his discharge, Charley was a letter carrier for the United States Post Office, where he worked from 1972 until he retired in 2002.
Charley was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Dixie Carroll White; brothers, Leroy White (Sue), Roger White (Ruth), Wade White (Betty), Herman White (Debbie); and sister, Joy Waters (Bill). He is also survived by many other family members and friends. A special thank you to brother-in-law, John Carroll; the West Pensacola Dialysis staff; Doctor Humeda; Doctor Counselman and nurse, Ann Hargis. Of Charley, it could be said, “[He] fought a good fight, he finished his course, he kept the faith…(II Timothy 4:7). Pallbearers will be LeRoy White, Roger White, Wade White, Herman White, Buck Britton and Curtis Urquhart. Honorary pallbearers will be John Carroll, Tony Carroll and Gene Wiggins. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 27, 2015 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Rev. Glen Anderson of The Pensacola Baptist Temple officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Monday at the funeral home.
