Charlotte Wilkerson Bonifay, 77, originally from Pensacola, Florida, but most recently of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, June 25 at Northside Hospital Forsyth with her dedicated husband and five children by her side. She was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in late December, facing her challenge with grace, courage, and dignity. She spent the last six months battling this brutal disease while always remaining strong in her faith. She achieved temporary relief but the complications of the disease proved too much to overcome.
Charlotte was a 1962 graduate of Escambia High School. She devoted her life to children which was a large part of why she chose to become a pre-school teacher and home daycare provider. She always put her family first on her priorities and loved to come to their assistance when needed. Up until the time of her death Charlotte supported her own children and grandchildren by being their number one fan during all of their sports endeavors. She spent over 20 years as a member and officer for the Miamisburg Athletics Booster Club and Collins Hill Track and Field Booster Club. She was even honored by the Ohio High School Athletic Association and given a State Award for her untiring devotion to student athletes.
Mrs. Bonifay was preceded in death by her father, Raymond “Skippy” Wilkerson, a sister, Regina Reynolds, and a brother, Thomas Wilkerson. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ronald (Ronnie) Bonifay of Lawrenceville; her mother, Dorothy Wilkerson of Pensacola; children, Eric Dean Bonifay (Renee) of Harvest, Alabama, Kristina Versprille (Stephen) of Soperton, Georgia, Kellean Waugh (Jeff) of Carlisle, Ohio, Gregory Bonifay (Nichole) of South Charleston, Ohio, and Catherine Jennings (Justin) of Cumming, Georgia; 10 granddaughters, Natalie Bonifay, Madeline Bonifay, Bailey Versprille, Karson Waugh, Layni Bonifay, Lyvi Bonifay, Maddison Watson, Morgen Watson, Keaghan Jennings, and Emerson Jennings; four grandsons, Bryant Versprille, Nicholas Bonifay, Brogan Waugh, and Cole Jennings; plus a grandchild due in January 2022; sisters, Paula Reilly, Teri Patterson (Howard), and Shelby Walders (James) all of Pensacola; two brothers, Donald Wilkerson (Renee) of Pensacola and Douglas Wilkerson (Jackie) of Pace; sister-in-law, Barbara Tuttle of McLean, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation Service and Rosary will be held Sunday, July 11 from 2-4pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Warrington, Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be Tuesday, July 13 at 12pm noon at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Pensacola with a procession and burial service to be held directly following the Mass at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Charlotte’s name to Brigid’s Path (https://brigidspath.org/). On-line condolences may be offered to the family at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/pensacola-fl/charlotte-bonifay-10248451.
