Dorothy Smith Gibbs

1930 – 2015

Dorothy Smith Gibbs, 85, of Pensacola, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, October 23, 2015.

Mrs. Gibbs was born September 12, 1930 in Mobile, Alabama to Quitman Smith and Bernice Grafe Smith. She had been a resident of Pensacola for 62 years. As a teacher with the Escambia County School District, she impacted the lives of many for over 20 years. Through her volunteer work with Adult Literacy, she enriched the lives of adults by helping them learn to read. Mrs. Gibbs was an active member of East Brent Baptist Church, volunteering in the church office and through the Joy Sharers. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, traveling and spending time with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard William Gibbs; son, Wesley Grafe Gibbs and brother, Wayne Smith.

Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Kucala (Vincent) of Stafford, VA and Rachael Taylor (Shawn) of Andalusia, AL; grandchildren, Christopher Kucala, Timothy Kucala and Kaitlin Kucala; great grandchildren, Payton Kucala, Faith Kucala and Brecken Lacey; and by her lifelong friends, the Reichmann family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2015 at East Brent Baptist Church with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating. Entombment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
