

Duane “Dewey” Paul Battles passed away on September 23, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida. Dewey, as we all knew him, was born to loving parents Delbert Battles and Delores Battles in Grand Island, Nebraska, on May 07, 1946.
At a young age, Dewey expressed a desire to serve his country and become a Naval Aviator for the United States Navy. While attending the University of Nebraska, Dewey had a college professor recommend him to attend the United States Naval Academy. After graduating with honors from the U.S. Naval Academy, Dewey was able to start his naval career as a Naval Aviator, upon which he soon became a Naval Instructor, Flight Instructor, Test Pilot, Transport Air Commander, NATOPS Officer, and Fleet Instructor. Dewey loved his country and being able to serve in the United States Navy. After serving 20 years in the military, Dewey retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1992. In 2014, Dewey retired from the United States Postal Service where he served as a rural route postal carrier after 26 years.
Duane “Dewey” Battles is survived by his wife of 35 years Dauhrice Battles and loving pet, Teddy; sister Danita (Battles) Alderton; his brothers Doug Battles and David Battles.

A Navy Military Honors service will be held at Dewey and Dauhrice's House on September 30, 2025, starting at 11:00 am.
