

She was preceded in death by her parents, Birdye Fishman Krakau and Jack Krakau, and husbands Jack Lorenz, Jr. and Colonel Bartley J. Greenwood Jr.
She is survived by son Philip Jack Lorenz III, daughter-in-law Valerie, daughter Dr. Brenna Ellen Lorenz, son-in-law Dr. Michael Pulte, grandson Malachi Pulte, granddaughter Megaera Lorenz-Garrabrant, grandson-in-law Glenn Garrabrant, great-granddaughter Miranda Garrabrant, and great-grandson Sebastian Garrabrant.
She earned a B.S. degree in Education from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, an M.S. degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and a PhD in Reading Education from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. She taught kindergarten, first grade, third grade, and remedial reading to fifth graders before moving to Pensacola, where Dr. Lorenz was an Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at the University of West Florida in Pensacola from 1969 until 1978, teaching courses in Reading, Language Arts, and Children's Literature.
Dr. Lorenz organized the Pensacola Chapter of Parents Without Partners, 1970, and served as first president, was Project Director and Newsletter Editor for Reading Is Fundamental 1980-1982; the County Reading Council; Newsletter Editor for Phi Delta Kappa, the Humane Society and the FFDTC Program. She and husband Bart Greenwood spent many years volunteering for Five Flags Dog Training Club Pet Education Program to teach "Responsible Pet Ownership" to elementary children in two counties from 1995-1998.
They ran the program "Reading is Fundamental", and received sponsorship from Mayor Vince Whibbs, golfer Jerry Pate, and Pensacola News Journal Editor J. Earle Bowden.
Dr. Lorenz received Community Service Awards for Reading Is Fundamental in 1982; Outstanding Newsletter Editor, Phi Delta Kapper, 1985; Five Flags Dog Training Club Pet Education Program, Florida Animal Control Association (FACA), 1988 and 1993; Responsible Pet Ownership Program Director, 1995-1998; 1997, Named "Humane Educator of the Year" by Florida Animal Control. 1988-1993, Received plaque for "Outstanding dedication, service, and Leadership" as Director of the FFDTC Education program.
She was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine, from 2006 to 2009.
The Greenwoods also conducted nine college reunions, 1883-1993, (called "Florida Flings") and edited a newsletter for McKendree College alums of the '30s and '40s in Lebanon Illinois, Bart's undergraduate school.
Publications include "American in Orbit", the story of John Glenn, Arrivals and Departures, Ally & Bacon Inc., 1963; "Excuse me, but your idiom is showing."
