Buddy was born August 01, 1960 in Bainbridge, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 25 years, Patricia Hawkins; step mother, Connie Hawkins; sisters, Miriam Milton and Sylvia Santoyo; brother, John Hawkins; and sisters-in-law, Pamela Hill and Rosa Hawkins; stepmother-in-law, Joan Hill.
Buddy leaves behind children, grand children, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Buddy’s legacy continues through his children, David Hawkins and Justin Allender; his daughters, Kara Hawkins and Brianna Allender; and his cherished grandchildren—Landon, Brody, Lexi, Brantley, Benjamin, and Levi.
He is preceded in death by his parents Estes "Pete" Hawkins, Nancy Hawkins; brother, Tod Hawkins; father-in-law, Robert E. Hill; mother-in-law, Sylvia Story; stepfather-in-law, Joe Story and sister-in-law, Sharon Hill.
Buddy showed his love through action. If something needed fixing, he was already on his way. As long as there was daylight, he believed there was still work to be done. He had a gift for repairing almost anything, but he especially excelled at electronics, and office machines —copiers in particular. His career in that field brought him not only pride but lifelong friendships, including a best friend in David Holman.
He was known for his dad jokes, his pranks, and his colorful socks—one pair even featuring his beloved dog, Bentley. In his younger years, Buddy loved long bicycle rides, often pedaling 40 to 50 miles on a Saturday. Patricia is convinced he built an expensive bike one piece at a time, judging by the steady stream of parts arriving at their home.
Buddy and Patricia were longtime members of Olive Baptist Church, where they faithfully attended their Round Table small group for many years. The friendships, fellowship, and love they found there became a deeply meaningful part of their lives.
Buddy was a devoted husband, a loyal friend, a helpful neighbor, a loving father, and a proud grandpa. If we could ask him today how he’s doing, he would surely smile and say he’s “swell.” We take comfort knowing he is now walking the streets of gold and seeing the face of God. He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with services immediately following.
Pallbearers are David Hawkins, Justin Alender, Dave Holman, Mike Grace, Dane Lewis and Reggie Toles.
