George Hartley Overby

Hartley was part of a big family and had four brothers and four sisters.

As a child, Hartley attended First Assembly of God Church in Winter Haven, Florida, with his parents and large extended family. Hartley graduated from Winter Haven High School in Winter Haven, Florida.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles as a young man. He worked as an electrician with his father, Earl Doc Overbey. He later served in the Navy as a medic.

He is the father of Edward Overbey and Mark Overbey.

Hartley was actively involved in Cora Baptist Church in Jay, Florida, with his partner of many years. Lois Freeman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Doris Overbey of Pensacola, Florida and grandparents, Varon Hartley and Mollie Harrison of Hazlehurst, Georgia and George and Mattie Elizabeth Commander Smith of Winter Haven, Florida.

He is survived by his eight siblings, Janice Sullivan (Terry) of Floral City, Florida, David Overbey of Milton, Florida, Darrell Overbey (Jan) of Granbury, Texas, Bobby Overbey of Milton, Florida, Keith Overbey of Milton, Florida, Melanie Perritt (Barry) of Pace, Florida, Carol Overbey of Jacksonville, Florida and Sandra Overbey of Pensacola, Florida.

Hartley enjoyed playing the guitar before he was stricken with Parkinson's Disease and enjoyed being with his family during the holidays.

Our family would like to thank our brother, David Overbey, for spending time with Hartley during his last years and overseeing his care.
