Ira J. Kemp, 90, of Pensacola, passed away on Sunday, May 01, 2011.
He retired from the Army after 23 years of service. Among his many tours, he served in the Philippines, Germany, Korea, Okinawa, Greenland and numerous places in the United States. He was honored to serve his country and he enjoyed the opportunity to travel.
After retiring he loved to fish. We are thankful to Creekside Senior Village for providing him the opportunity to fish one last time.
Ira was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Voncile McNeil Kemp; his parents, John and Minnie Kemp; his older brother, Bodie Kemp; and his twin brother, Iva Kemp.
He is survived by his daughter, Glenda Kemp Roberts (Lon); his granddaughters, Kathryn Coxwell and Sharon Concilio (Ken); great grandson, William Coxwell; great granddaughter, Natalie Concilio and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 04, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be Thursday, May 05, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Dr. John Pavlus of Brownsville Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park with full military honors.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Janice Cadenhead and to the staff and caregivers, especially those in Cottage 7, at Creekside Senior Village for the care and kindness they showed Ira.
