

James "J.D." Brown was born January 10, 1921, as the 5th of 6 children to Louis F. and Hazel Brown. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University and served in the U. S. Army throughout the South Pacific. J.D. attended St. John Catholic Church, and enjoyed time spent with his extended family and friends.
Those who knew J.D. Brown know that God made only one of him. This special man spent his life living on Bayou Grande and earned much respect in the world of Marine Biology. J.D. spent many years cultivating and farming shrimp. He was also known widely for his lifetime efforts in the research and preservation of our coastal waters, helping many an individual and company in fighting against pollution. James held various positions including Environmental Steward on the Board of Bream Fishermen Association (BFA). He lead efforts to assist the state with source identification of pollutants and other environmental issues. J.D. dedicated his life to maintaining our beautiful shoreline.
James Dudley Brown is the final sibling to pass in his generation, and was preceded in death by siblings Marjorie Brown, Louis S. Brown, Mary "Betty" Saxon, Hazel "Patsy" Welp and Nancy Razaitis. He is survived by a large family across the United States who have a special place in their heart for J. D.
Visitation will be held on January 27, 2021 at 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with The Holy Rosary at 6:00 pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 28th at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, 303 S. Navy Blvd with Father John Licari officiating. Graveside Service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1300 E. Hayes St.
The Family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Donald Blackmon and his staff. Also thank you to the staff at the Haven of Our Lady of Peace for their excellent care, love and respect they showed J.D.
A special thank you to Theresa Jordan for her love and companionship during her time as J.D.'s caregiver.
